We get walls today!!!
It wouldn't be a renovation project without a few curveballs. For us that was last week. We pulled a permit for the electrical work, but not anything else. Since we were putting walls back up that we had just torn down, the collective wisdom was we were fine. Especially when we did a similar renovation on another house and didn't not need a permit. Well we got tagged. They made us pull both a framing permit and a plumbing permit. Nell scrambled all week to get the required updates and on Friday we passed. So that means today we get walls.Sunday, September 14, 2008
It's all clean now
So this weekend we got all the debris out from last weekend. About 4 tons. We filled a 30 cubic foot dumpster. The best part was getting to throw out a bunch of material that's been piling up for years that we can't throw in the trash. Almost like the landfill coming to you... We cut out the window for the new bedroom. Hope to get the new windows in over the next 2 weeks.
Oh and last weekend, I smashed my finger with the hammer nailing some boards over the open windows. Hurt like a ...
The plumber comes Monday to start working
on the bathroom.
We picked up the studs today to start the framing next weekend. THAT will be a crazy day:
6am Contractors Arrive
8am Nell leaves for the ariport
9am Boys baseball game
All the while Dogtail's biggest project to date is going on.
Like the little engine once said, "I think I can, I think I can"....

What are we thinking?

There's no turning back now. We've torn it all down. We had some guys come and finish the demolition. We have even decided to go ahead and replace the bathroom. If we are going to all this trouble, we figured we might as well go all the way. It was a good way to spend a VERY rainy Saturday. We screwed up and did not get the dumpster delivered on time. We'll have to wait until next Saturday to remove the debris, so it will put us a week behind. We should still be good to be done in time for Thanksgiving. Wish us luck...

Hidden Treasures
After we took down the paneling, we discovered a bunch of drawings on the drywall. Some of it was pretty good.
It's a shame to tear it down. (Nah...)
Demolition Begins
Here is a last look at the basement before demolition. We took the carpet's up and some of the paneling down
. Found some mold in one corner, but hopefully it won't be too bad. We'll seal it and use the drywall for bathrooms in that corner just to be safe.

We let everybody into the demolition phase. Jack and Ben took out most of the half walls.
